Great article! Figuring all that out is quite an accomplishment. In my books, I use local time zones with the Gregorian Calendar--with "Earth Reckoning" in parentheses if the event is on a different world. In-story, the "Charter Worlds" had a vote on a universal calendar system they could use for purposes of interplanetary commerce, etc., and, predictably, they all voted for their own individual systems. However, they voted near-unanimously for the Gregorian as their second choice, and after numerous votes, they adopted it. They also adopted the metric system, with most worlds already using it. With a population of 20 billion, Earth has a lot of clout within the Charter Worlds because of its huge military and cultural influences (politics, religion and arts). All that said, I'm also working on a "universal calendar" for the non-charter worlds along with separate measurement/weight, currency, and Con-lang.
